July 19, 2016 - The wine is a pale lemon colour.

The wine has a medium intensity of bruised green apples and pears, some lime zest and just the first hints of apricot/peach notes. Light, fresh and simple - a youthful wine.

The palate is dry with medium+ acidity, medium- alcohol and a light body. The intensity and finish are a little lacking being medium- on both accounts, with the same citrus, green fruits and fresh, simple style as suggested by the nose.

An acceptable quality Xarel.lo from the Penedes region of Catalunya, Spain.

March 16, 2016 - quite dark yellow color. slightly different on the nose, soft, toasty, biscuity. aroma of pears or fiji apple with just a whiff of cinnamony spiciness (apple pie). velvety, soft in the mouth. notes of browned apples, honey, a slight zestiness in the background. medium length. a bit atypical wine (with aroma and flavor closer to cognac or pineau), reminiscent of those aged in clay, but without any of the associated tartness.

October 1, 2014 - A 100% organic Xarel-lo. A part of the wine is aged in 300 liter oak barrels; a majority of the barrels were 2nd or 3rd use with a few new casks in the mix.

Intense green color. More delicate than expressive nose with good depth: rich, fruit-forward and even somewhat exotic aromas of pineapple, some apple, a little pear and a hint of floral complexity with a nuance of creamy woodiness in the background. On the palate the wine is broad, round and full-bodied but with good acidity that is more about balance than structure. Juicy, succulent flavors of apple, chalky and steely minerality, some nuttiness and a hint of toffee wood. The mouthfeel is silky and even slightly oily. The finish is dry, quite long and pretty complex with refreshing flavors of jasmine, succulent red apple, some stony minerality and a hint of grassy herbal notes.

A well-made, balanced Xarel-lo with good depth and complexity. Although the wine is aged in oak, the barrel aging has mainly given the wine body and complexity, not that much wood flavors or aromatics. The wine might be lacking a little in the acid department, but overall the wine is still a really positive example of barrel-aged Xarel-lo. The wine might benefit from short-to-medium term cellaring. Shows really good value at 11,45€.
