January 12, 2021 - Two hour decant. Very deep hazy magenta color. Blueberry, black cherry, mocha, and subtle black olive on the nose. Smooth, dry palate, with lingering acidity. Full tannins on the longish finish. The palate is a bit thin and I expected more from this vintage.

May 11, 2019 - Garnet robed, LXV’s 2014 Reserve Syrah is made from fruit sourced from Kiler Canyon Vineyard in Paso’s Willow Creek District and is vinified in 50% new French oak. Heady waves of Damson plums, black cherries, and blackberry pie rest beneath secondary aromas of lilacs, black olives, freshly turned soil, crushed limestone, and iron shavings. Medium-bodied, a mineral-infused spine lends adds a degree of lift and elegance to a wine with a sumptuous black-fruited core—the acidity crests and falls off, buoying along limestone infused minerality. 14.1% ABV

As I always mention with the reviews for this winery, LXV is one of my clients.

March 23, 2019 - Timeless and mysterious, the Sphinx sits atop its perch, waiting for you to answer its riddle. Will you be able to solve it?

At first smell, the 2014 Reserve Syrah offers up resolved hints of petrichor and dark spices. Soon these are followed by layers of sandalwood, cedar, and dried tobacco. Just as the Sphinx was tied to the road it guarded, so too do the aromas of this Syrah harken back to the vineyard from which it was born.

As the wine begins to open on your palate, a dense core of dried cherries and fresh plums emerge. With more air, this Syrah becomes darker and richer, displaying lingering hints of espresso, blackberry, and Madagascar vanilla beans.

The fresh acidity of this wine makes it light on its feet and able to dance on air... all while its notable strength and heft make it a glass that will be truly hard to forget!
