Community Tasting Notes 23

May 17, 2023 - 1/2. Browning garnet color with transparency. Smells like farmyard, earth, root vegetables, tomato leaf, mushrooms—very savory; maybe some darker fruits, but subtle. Medium body, medium (-) acid and finish, with flavors of black cherry, plum, black tea, orange peel, and spice. Only 12.5%. Light. Different. Agree with the pinot comparisons—Burgundian even! So like, I'm not transported to Tuscany here, but I do like it. 90?

November 25, 2021 - Elegant, not too savory at pop and pour. Light garnet with browning at the rim. Looks significantly older than it tastes today.

Day 1 and it gets into a green stemmy-kinda place. Still fine and the sweet Grenache side of things comes out.

November 24, 2021 - Delicious wine. Had with pizza

November 28, 2020 - Light garnet. Browning to the rim. Lots more evolution than the 1999 Leroy Bourgogne Rouge from earlier in the week. Strawberry red fruit. No tannin. Mineral. Has some heft, but not egregious. Says 12.5% ABV. Sweet fruit component for sure. Not sure what to make of this, but i will say that it’s more enjoyable than not.

January 4, 2020 - I hate writing a tasting note without a score, but this one is hard to rate as it tastes nothing like a Sangiovese. At first, it is Pinot-like as others have noted. Then, it develops into a Cab Franc taste as it is savory, bell pepper, with a bit of peppery taste. I like it. Very interesting wine with different flavors, but not anything like Sangiovese if that is what you're looking for.
