June 25, 2018 - It’s not often that I have the pleasure of opening Grand Cru white Burgundy, and I picked this one up for a song ($65 from Wine Library) a while back

To be honest, I didn’t expect too much, as the first rule of Burgundy White Club is “producer.” That’s the second and third rule, too

I had never heard of this one, but had always wanted to taste a Corton blanc GC, so in the name of education, I took a punt

Well, it turned out to be much better than I expected. There was quite a bit of oak, but it did not completely dominate the fruit, which was rich, broad, dense and quite expressive. It also had a chalky imprint on the finish (along with toasty spice) and was really delicious and enjoyable - serious without being austere, and a friendly introduction to the style of Corton. Was happy to open it now, but it will age well in the next 5 years I’d imagine

The Maillard family has cultivated vineyards in Burgundy since the 1650s, and their parcel on the famed hill of Corton is in the lauded Les Renardes climat

If you see it at this price, I’d pull the trigger. Not the most contemplative wine but very lovely to enjoy with friends/family

May 12, 2018 - A lot of well integrated oak but still a very nice corton. Acidity is medium or plus and there is a symphony of other fruit and non fruit aromas here that are interesting.

April 9, 2018 - Quite rich and had a candied fruit profile. There’s a riot of flavour in the mouth and acidity is relatively soft.

October 5, 2016 - This is ok, but has too much wood for my tastes; smokey, oaky, vanilla, apple pie. Not my style.
