Community Tasting Notes 5

August 28, 2020 - Beautiful nose of bright strawberries, cherry, flowers, but then with a faint smell of petroleum and a grassy field in spring in the background which gives it a nice depth. The smell is wonderful and so inviting. Balanced sweet / tart red berries in the mouth, followed by a structured friendly acidity that retreats into light, lingering flavors of cherry and minerality. Fixin combines that unique combination of the bright fruit of neighbor Marsannay and the structure of the other neighbor Gevrey Chambertin. And this wine is the friendly community member that goes back and forth between both neighborhoods- unpretentious yet elegant and something to say. This is an elegant Bourgogne - a Pinot Noir that will please both fans of European and American pinot noir alike.

April 8, 2018 - Lightweight, refined, elegant. Cherry and earth. However, also very tannic and stemmy currently. Try in 4-5 years. Could be a beauty if you are a finesse-lover.

April 7, 2018 - Light center, pale edge. Floral, herbal aromatics. Light weight, nice feel with a trace of vanillin oak. Black fruit, some soil, excellent acidity, tannic finish. Quite refined for a village Fixin. Better with an additional few years in bottle.

December 17, 2017 - Light center to watery rim. Stemmy, funky nose, not very appealing. Light with red berry, tart acidity, good soil, and some tannin. Not bad, and certainly better in the mouth and not dirty as the nose suggests.

October 8, 2016 - Medium red. Cherry and earth aromas. Light to medium weight but sappier and more to it than most Fixin. Like a small Gevrey in its interplay of red fruit and soil. Nice.
