Community Tasting Notes 5

October 9, 2017 - Fresh with high acidity and quite silky tannins and a tarter lingonberry/cranberry flavour mixed in with strawberries and cherries. There is something herbal in this
perhaps from stems included. Could not find any oak or other barrel influence. Needed some air as it opened up after an hour, and was at its best then and for an hour or two more. Different but recognizable as sangiovese.

August 20, 2017 - Another delicious Sangiovese offering from the vineyards of Noelia Ricci in Emilia-Romanga! Similar to the Il Sangiovese, this bottle showed exceptional drinkability; different, however, in its deeper savoury character and tone of a much more serious wine. It was hard to believe that a wine with such a notable herbal, peppery quality and touches of stewed tomato/barnyard could seem fresh, but…there you have it. Strawberry, red currant, pomegranate, and sour cherry all played their part in fighting to maintain that balance, and did so successfully. Further notes of meat and tobacco came forward with some time, as did a riper sense of cherry. The wine was overall somewhat suggestive of a sweetish version of a Caesar, if such a thing existed? (for Canadians, anyway…Bloody Mary to American folks, I suppose!) Intriguing to say the least, and very tasty alongside some classic thin crust pizza. Despite the intensity of flavour, 13% ABV helped keep the it from feeling at all heavy – quite the opposite – and resulted in wine that was thoroughly enjoyable to sip on. 2 down, 1 to go; I guess I have no choice now but to seek out the Noelia Ricci Trebbiano and complete the trifecta . No doubts that it’ll provide that same level of enjoyment!

April 14, 2017 - Tre bicchiere in the Gambero Rosso. Light colour, strawberry red with a hint of brown; autumnal nose of spices, roses, honey and crushed red berries; silky palate, transparent but intense, fresh, firm but creamy tannins, elegant weight (13% ABV), nutty flavours; light finish with a hint of tea, good length. Quite old- fashioned but charming.

December 29, 2016 - So this is how a three glasses wine in Gambero Rosso tastes like in 2016? Non-carbonated Lambrusco with some length. 1 h in the decanter. The appearance is quite interesting: pale red and rather muddy appearance. My thoughts goes in the direction of amateurish vin natur Gamay. The nose is filled with some stone fruit, Christmas spices and a nasty funky note (I really do not want to say what it resembles). The wine barely holds together in the mouth. It feels like a full collapse of the wine is imminent. Sangiovese the label says. Well, this is a new experience of that grape. I really enjoy light red (Bojo, Etna etc.) But this was a disappointment. Highly questionable CPR. First and last bottle.

    October 17, 2016 - Very transparent
Shy nose but bags of flavours of cherries and minerals with long finish
