March 1, 2024 - Drank with a 2014 Guiberteau Breze thinking I’d like the Guiberteau more and resolve to stop paying the premium for Clos Rougeard. Two of three (myself included) preferred the Clos Rougeard. This was such a calming and harmonious bottle. No reduction. Creamy banana tropical fruit notes with some orange zest and white flower. Pretty incredible.

July 27, 2023 - In a direct comparison of Clos Rougeard's Brezé and Guiberteau, Guiberteau's wine clearly had the edge. I do not know if the CR was an off bottle or not. It was not a classic cork fault, the wine was too developed, lacked tension and clarity. Some yellow fruit, wax notes - somehow everything like a Burgundy with Premox. The Guiberteau was quite different. The wine shows in the form of a harmonious acidity and a delicate melt that it has now arrived in a good drinking window. Various notes of citrus peel, green pears, lemon balm and chamomile, as well as a nice chalky minerality from the Loire tufa (not to be confused with volcanic tufa) that gives the wine a touch of oyster shell. The wine has a nice medium+ acidity and a good length. It lacks some complexity for a great wine. 92/100 The Brezé of Clos Rougeard was in condition at a maximum of 85 points. Disappointing.

January 27, 2023 - PNP into Gabriel-Glas glass (“Leaf” day): Medium copperish golden to the eyes.

Popcorn and reductive notes of stone fruits like apricots and citrus fruits like grapefruits. Complex secondary notes driven by florals and no detectable oak influences here (unlike most top Burgundian chardonnays which often gets compared).

Perfect integration on the palate. Minerality driven. More about secondary flavors and less primary fruits here but very classic and medium bodied. Super long and lingering finish.

Wow what a beautiful and complex effort. 95-96 points easy.

December 24, 2022 - Needs at least 3 hours of aeration before the flavours can open up properly. It is enjoyable now, but has plenty of years in reserve.

November 12, 2022 - Still way too young to drink. The acidity on this is elevated still but has lots of complexity. I think it is worth 5 years on this at least. I will be much better
