Beautiful dark, rich color with perhaps a hint of amber edge; after some initial stink, the nose emerged with black fruit, perhaps a hint of tar, and persisted for almost 2 hours; big, round mouthfeel with mature fruit; very good finish over 10-15 seconds. Stored horizontally in a cool, dark basement since purchase. My evaluation: I've stopped giving scores on a "100-point scale" as I've become less convinced that they can be meaningful to others. I use a 4-category scale (perhaps with +/-)--not including flawed--which runs outstanding/notable/drinkable/poor. I considered this outstanding when considering quality, age, and price.

  August 7, 2014 - I thought that this would be outside its drinking window but it is drinking awesomely--right out of the bottle there's freshness and density, plenty of fruit, still a lot of structure but the tannins are beautifully integrated; showing some secondary characteristics on the nose and in the glass, but but there's still youth--both fruit and muscularity. Distinctly Tuscan; a wine very much in balance and in that sweet spot where it changes from sip to sip, toeing the tightrope between fresh and old. Very fascinating, very beautiful, very delicious.
