August 7, 2021 - Was given this from a friend that got it from an abandoned cellar. Came in to this with very low expectations and boy was I surprised. Vibrant nose of red fruits and leather. The palate was lively with cherry and tea flavors and was drinking remarkably well for the age. Enjoyed by all.

February 23, 2020 - Phenomenal tasting of the 1980, '89, and '93 Lytton Springs Zins! The
1980 was a bit of an enigma. Lighter, orangish rim with some initial oxidations and caramel aromas. These developed over time into what one of our most experiences tasters described as "American Amarone" with dark, concentrated and slightly drying fruit with sweetness on the finish. If you have any left, recommend a good decant and rest - then drink up this hedonistic piece of history! 89-90 -

August 11, 2013 - Sunday Brown Bag Tasting: Lytton Springs Zinfandel vertical (C's): This is obviously old with a light orange color. Aromas of black tea leaf, dried leaves and macerated cherry. Light mouthfeel with a bit of a tannic bite, and flavors of sweet red fruit turning sour on the finish. Got better as it sat; notes of chalk and red fruit with a good bit of acid and flavors of cherries and dried leaves; loses the sourness.

February 14, 2013 - Last of 6 purchased in 2008 for ~20 bucks. Full throttle stuff. Very lytton springs (winery). Jammy with high VA. For my taste, this is zin at its best. A great case that this is the best vineyard in the best area for zin. These old black labels are getting scarce but are a real piece of CA winemaking history. Not sure about tomorrow but really loving it tonight!

October 17, 1995 - DEEP BERRY FRUIT IN THE NOSE WITH EFFERVESCENT FRUITY FLAVORS EXPLODING IN THE MOUTH. DEEP BERRIES, BLACK CHERRIES AND RASPBERRIES. NICE LEGS. LONG FINISH.
