October 20, 2023 - Lunch at Bacata. Tasted blind. Drank in Grassl 1855.
Way over the hill. Very tertiary earth, old tanned leather, mushroom, sour plums, slight cigar, interestingly some chocolate nougat also.

May 11, 2020 - Another bottle from a 3-bottle auction lot. The last one was extremely advanced. This one was fresh and youthful. Explosive nose and palate, intense dark fruit, lingering finish. Just as good on Day 2, and even the final half-glass on Day 3 was superb. One more bottle to go. Here's hoping it shows like this one.

February 7, 2020 - Far more advanced than it should have been. Opened it blind and most thought it was 40+ years old. Murky, maderized.

May 13, 2016 - Crumbly cork, from magnum. Instantly recognizable as oxidised/past it. Shame! Purchase with extreme caution.

September 12, 2015 - Dinner at Tim and Elliott's (San Francisco, CA): Cork was in beautiful shape. Color is light-medium ruby with bricking appropriate for its age; nose has moderate intensity, excellent complexity with cherry, spice, some underbrush/earth, with swirling slight leather; palate is medium bodied, excellent acidity, tart cherry fruit, sangiovese cooking spice (compared to more peppery syrah spice); medium length finish with good remaining fruit. This wine is at peak, showing some mature notes with excellent remaining concentration of fruit, and excellent complexity. My last of three bottles, and each has been a pleasure. 92
