May 8, 2023 - Incredible wine drinking wonderfully right now. Pretty nose of roses and violets, leather and sour cherries. Such great mouthwatering acidity. A really pretty wine masculine and feminine at the same time. Tastes like a hypothetical mix of Ribera, Barolo and Burgundy…. This is a beauty. Drink or hold short term. Prob around peak.

    March 9, 2022 - Portugal's Promising Past (Elliot's Place): Tasted Blind

    A: Deep garnet
N: Medium (+) nose of dried black currant, dried bramble, prunes. menthol, tobacco, cedar, coffee, wet leaf
P: Some real steaminess on the palate. Baga grape traditionally fermented on its stems. Dry, medium (+) acid, medium alcohol, high chalky tannin, medium (+) body, pronounced intensity and medium (+) finish
balance here is great. Pronounced fruit and great acidity. Ideal intensity and good length. Lacking a little in complexity so very good rather than outstanding quality but I am a big fan. Preferred this to the CS from '94

Seems fully developed so unlikely to improve with ageing though acid enough to keep it fresh

September 24, 2020 - Wow... this wine was - something! Probably
one of the more baffling wines I’ve ever had...

Decanted for an hour, the overarching impression that this wine gave was one of crackling acidity. At 24 yes old, I expected the fruit and tannins to be considerably toned down... but this thing was tart tart tart. The tannins were mostly resolved lending a bit of velvety texturer, and the fruit tried to peak through. However, acid won the palate at every state.

I came back to this a day later and it had opened up just a bit... but not enough to make me love it. The fruit was about the same, while the acid had taken on a balsamic quality. Maybe it’s me - I was expecting more... more flavor, more complexity, more concentration.

    I won’t be buying more.

December 15, 2019 - A bit funky when first opened, but an hour in the decanter helped clean it up. Lots of mature flavors here, with leather, earth, forest floor, dried red fruits and dried herbs. The tannins are accessible, but still very much evident. An enjoyable wine for those not averse to mature flavors.
