Community Tasting Notes 5

January 18, 2024 - I am giving this a 92 for a change for those who finish a bottle on the day of opening, otherwise a 90. This bottle initially seemed to deserve at least a 93. A repeated observation with this product is its slightly "diminishing return" over 3 days. So as a reminder to myself finish the bottle on day 1. 2 bottles to go.

TN as on Oct 29th, 2017, with an intense ripe dark forest berry nose.

July 16, 2022 - Seht runde Sache, hatte schon eine sehr gute Nase zu Beginn. Leicht gekühlt, sehr ausgewogener harmonischer Wien.

January 18, 2022 - Good example of a GSM dominated, in my perception, by the Syrah. Pepper is very much there, but otherwise my 2017 basically says it. Remaining 3 bottles are scheduled until 2026, but things are speeding up, so who knows.

October 22, 2019 - TN exactly as before except this bottle didn't deteriorate hardly at all over 3 days. Yet, day 1 was somewhat superior, a 91 in my book. Next bottle scheduled for 2021.

October 29, 2017 - First Private Budget Red Quaffer Re-Buy Contest Marathon; 9/1/2017-2/13/2018 (At Home): Eye deep ruby with a touch of garnet, still slightly transparent with deep shadows, slow tears.

Nose somewhat herbal, with dark forest berries, dried juniper berry, dried tomato, cooked strawberry and some pepper.

On the palate with a nice and pleasant balance between extract, dried strawberry fruit (if that’s a thing), tomato, rosewater and mild acidity. Chalky and grainy, very reminiscent of the Guigal CdR style prior to 2012, with a notch up from it. Price has now started to rise into a zone where I wouldn’t buy again though, as long as there is precisely that Guigal CdR.

Started out as a 90/91 and seemed to deteriorate into an 89 by day 3. Shouldn’t be too young, but will try again by 2019. For now it’s an 89.
