Community Tasting Notes 1

September 26, 2016 - Aged for 17 months in 228-liter oak barrels, of which 80% were old and 20% new, and then for a further 3-5 months in bottles before release.

Luminous ruby red color. Very intense nose with almost explosive aromas of pure Pinosity: earthy tones, smoke, fragrant violet tones, some peppery spice, light black cherry tones, a little bit of dark forest fruits and a hint of cranberry. Very seductive from the first sniff. The wine is ripe yet very fresh, light-bodied and almost crisp on the palate with super-lively, dark-toned flavors of cherries, tart yet sweet lingonberries, some juicy dark berries, a little bit of sweet smoky tones, light floral notes of violets, a spicy hint of black pepper and a touch of sour cherry bitterness. The structure relies mostly on the notably high acidity as the tannins are very light, contributing quite little to the texture and almost nothing to the grip. The finish is dry, very long and crunchy with intense, complex flavors of tart lingonberries, sour cherry bitterness, some peppery Pinosity, light floral tones of violets, a little bit of earthy spice and a hint of brambly raspberry.

A beautiful, harmonious and wonderfully crunchy Spätburgunder that is all about vibrant Pinosity, fresh acidity and purity of fruit. Delicious stuff that is drinking wonderfully now, but most likely will continue to develop for years more. An impressive, very convincing and ridiculously smashable effort for an entry-level Pinot Noir. Solid value at 19,90€. Recommended.
