January 3, 2020 - faded roses in fine, pointed nose with an intense core and some ethereal spice notes. Very refined, delicate, floral taste. Excellent long, slow fadeout in finish.

December 9, 2019 - Oxidised. Sweet nose. Tannic. Sadly this was tough to enjoy

February 10, 2018 - After the bottle funk blows off over its first 15 minutes in the decanter, this shows a mature cherry nose with lots of cinnamon, sous-bois, rose, and a touch of tar. But it dies quite quickly in the glass - 10-15 minutes before it begins to fall apart. Re-visiting the remnants in the closed decanter over the next hour and a half, subsequent pours reveal a huge menthol nose which is more penetrating but not as complex, fruit-driven, or Barolo-like -- so I'm not inclined to think that prolonged decanting is the way to go with this one. Nice enough palate; nothing profound cf the nose, but still with grippy tannins. Such fun to see where Barolo goes when it gets really old. Looking forward to some upcoming 47s, 71s, etc.

November 2, 2015 - When I decant this at home in the morning, it is very promising: the wine is not only sound, but shows sweet fruit, iron, roses, cinnamon. At lunch, however, hours later, this is musty and even seems corked. Luckily, the mustiness blows off and the palate is intact and sound, with red fruit, roses, cinnamon, light rust and a long, elegant finish. Bob in particular loves the finish. As this airs in the glass, it opens up even more, broadens, gets cleaner, shows good purity to the red fruit along with roses. Bob and Stephen find lots of cinnamon stick. Bob and I note the complex, yet delicate, nuances. With additional air, this shows notes of bullion and even mint, with a long finish. Very fine. Lunch at Le Perigord.
