November 5, 2022 - Candidate for new favorite champs. Vibrant nose of lemon and flint, yet incredibly balanced with hints of yeastiness, fine bubbles, and a finish that travels on and on.

April 17, 2022 - A wonderful brut pure chard here with characteristic chiselled character. Brisk and great aperitiv

    2015 vintage. Disgorged May 2019. 100% Chardonnay.

A Chablis-esque profile gifts round, lush lemon, white melon rind, and chalk flavors, with a light-on-its-feet, medium intensity overall. The effervesce is light-to-medium and fans throughout the glass, making for some suds in the mouth before dissipating into an elegantly soft finish. Indeed friendly in its presentation, like a Labrador puppy wiggling upside-down in full-on, "Here's my belly; now pet me!" mode. Fun and agreeable all the way around, if but a bit simple in complexity and concentration. Pairs great wine good 'ol fashioned salty potato chips.

Compared to the 100% Pinot Blanc L'Originale (which I prefer in comparison), this L'Osmose is less powerful and not as multi-faceted, which is somewhat surprising as I would have figured Chardonnay as a varietal would have shown more layering generally over the Pinot Blanc. Both make for good Champagne at a reasonable price-point, but I'm personally drawn toward the more unique L'Originale.

It’s the first time we’ve tried this producer’s chardonnay; we found a lot of mature fruit such as pineapple, mango, lemons and limes, pears, yellow baking apples, and pears; this gave way to a flinty minerality with wet stones, and some oysters; with more sir, some more complex aromas of honey, caramel, and mixed nuts developed; finally, it also showed a herbal side with with mint and fennel.
Our experience has shown us that Gerbais’ wines age quite slowly, and need a lot of time in the bottle to gain in complexity; this 2014 base is still very young, although it seems like it will have a lot more to say in the future. Right now, it’s a little austere, similar to our experience with the producer’s other wines; it’s worth waiting another few years, the acidity is still quite high, and the wine is a little one-dimensional. Right now it’s more of a relaxed apéritif.

July 24, 2020 - Disgorged 2017. This is taut and electric -not terribly complex on the palate but starting to show a little savory nuttiness. Good for the price and seems to have positive aging potential...don’t open this too early as I did!
