January 10, 2024 - Showing some age with a slight brick tint on the pretty garnet color with a fair amount of transparency, this is the lighter, prettier side of Pinot.

Lithe and graceful, a core of balaton cherry fruit with a whisper of raspberry is first out of the glass, followed by dusty fallen leaves, pipe tobacco, and just a hint of baking spices.

The palate is fresh and lively, the talcy tannins supporting delicious red to slightly back fruit, spices, and just a hint of oak treatment. Really a lovely, genteel expression of pure fruit. Not an exceedingly complex or funky burgundy, but that’s not the intent here.

One may quibble about the prices of burgundy, but even for a second tier cru as this, you really can’t find Pinot crafted like this anywhere else in the work. Thoroughly enjoyable, and a benchmark for a reason. It’s in its best drinking window now, drink most within the next five years and save one or two for a target of ten years.

July 3, 2023 - July 4th Mondo Event (Atlanta, GA): Tasted blind. Clearly from Burgundy with bright red, but soft fruit that was borderline exotic with smooth tannin. I thought it was 1er cru Gevrey. One person even called it sappy. Nevertheless, this was punching above its village level.
