October 25, 2022 - ABV: 14.9%. Here's an example of how the ABV can ruin a wine. The nose is appealing with plums, blackberries, currant, anise, and toasted oak. However, the mid-palate is a bit flabby and lacking in acidity. Fruits are evident, but the wine's a little discombobulated. The finish is tannic and short with the heat from the alcohol rising on the back of my throat. Maybe it'll get better tomorrow?

10/26/2022 - The nose evolved overnight to show more fruit tones, shifting from black to dark red fruits. The tannins have soften on the mid-palate, but the alcoholic heat is still evident here and at the finish. Very disappointing.

February 20, 2020 - This is my second tasting note for the same wine & vintage. The cork on this bottle had a wine penetration up to 17 mm; the foil seemed worthy of a 'heavy' rating, heavier than usual in West Coast wines selling for under $20. It also appears that the wine needs lots of time to breathe; when I first opened it last night the mouthfeel was not good and the wine could only be described as medium bodied mediocre. Now after 24 hours of airing about half the time at room temperature 25 degrees C and then in the fridge just above zero C, the mouthfeel has improved markedly and the 90 point rating in my 11/15/2019 tasting seems well deserved. Some of the southeastern Washington State wines from a little north of the Columbia River, for example Red Mountain AVA and Horse Heaven Hills AVA, at the latitude of Bordeaux by the way, vie with the best in the world, in my opinion.

December 10, 2019 - A very soft, smooth CS with subtle hints of fruit. Decanted and then nice from start to finish. A wine that reflects H3's understated, but equally sophisticated CS. For the modest price point really a value.

December 3, 2019 - As someone relatively unfamiliar with wine, I found a 3L bottle at an outlet store for $39.99 and bought it. Is that a good deal? They had the same brand 2014 Merlot for the same price, also the 3L size.

Thanks for any and all replies! :)

November 15, 2019 - How nice to drink a wine with bottle age. Very good structure and excellent dinner wine. Maybe let breathe for 30 minutes. Has backbone and not as juicy as many California cabs. Costco is promoting for thanksgiving at great price . I’ll buy more.
