February 20, 2023 - Saw this at a local shop for under $20 - aged Napa Merlot, interesting -- so i picked up a bottle to try. I looked it up later and found that Derek Beitler, the winemaker was a Wagner nephew and actually made the wine in the Caymus facility. I am decidedly NOT a fan of the Caymus family of wines, so i was half expecting an oaky flabby wine, but this was not the case at all, as this was actually leaning towards an acid-driven, leaner style of red. Ample amount of fruit to balance things out. Enjoyed this very much, actually. Unfortunately, on the second evening (stoppered and refrigerated overnight), some elevated volatile acidity appeared and limited enjoyment. If scoring, 90 first evening, 88 2nd.
