Community Tasting Notes 4

October 5, 2016 - This presents itself somewhere between a Cru Beaujolais and a California Pinot Noir, and it does so very well. Medium bodied visually and on the palate with an attractive flavor profile. More like Gamay on the nose (this is a German Pinot Noir) with grapey/floral aromatics and supporting smokey tar notes. Gets surprisingly velvety on the palate with a luscious long finish featuring attractive cola and strawberry rhubarb notes that invite another sip. Outstanding. Sample for review.

April 14, 2016 - Earthy and honest Pinot Noir.. Shy but beautiful aromas of forest floor, smoke, dried cherries. On the palate, quite supple. Medium bodied. Up lifting acidity and soft tannins. Good, pure red berries, hint of smokey earth.
    Nice!

    February 27, 2016 - 13,5% alcohol. Tasted blind.

Translucent pomegranate red color. Quite rich, peppery and vibrant nose full of Pinosity: aromas of fresh cranberries, bright stony minerality, some earthy spices, a little bit of juicy dark fruits like black raspberries and boysenberries and - after some air - subtle hints of toasty oak spice. The wine is very lively, light-bodied and fresh with pure flavors of ripe cranberries, tart lingonberries, sour cherry bitterness, some spicy Pinosity, a little bit of pungent peppery character and a sweeter hint of juicy dark fruits smoothing out the roughest, spicy corners. The wine is very high in acidity with light and supple tannins that lend a little bit of grainy texture to the mouthfeel. The finish is tart, fresh and bright with lengthy flavors of crunchy cranberries, peppery spice, some earthy Pinosity, a little bit of ripe black cherry, light truffle tones and - as the wine opens up with air - a subtly oaky touch of butterscotch and toasted wood.

Right from the first sniff it was obvious: the unmistakable peppery Spätburgunder note made me think instantly of German Pinot Noir. And right I was. The wine is very fresh, immensely drinkable and hands-down delicious with its honest, varietally very true flavors, delicate body and overall brightness of aromatics. With some air the wine gains some gravitas, but also some oakier tones - other people might not be bothered by them, but I found the wine more pleasurable upon opening than after some breathing. All in all a delightful and immensely enjoyable everyday Pinot Noir, recommended.
