January 22, 2024 - More tart than I remember or prefer. Did not change much over 3 days. A nice Zin, but there are others (including other Carlisle) that I like a lot more.

October 6, 2023 - Purple in color. 15.5% ABV. Sensational nose of red fruits, peach and baking spices. Medium body with just enough acidity. There are enough bright fruits here at eight years of age to make this Zinfandel incredibly compelling. Black cherry, raspberry liqueur, mulberry and pepper on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Awesome Zinfandel from a problematic vintage that has aged brilliantly. Best over the next several years.

May 21, 2023 - Another experiment. Decanted half the bottle for 2 hours, left remained in bottle to slow ox. Upon opening this screamed brambleberry with lots of energy. The decanted sample warmed up a bit more than that remaining in the bottle giving it a more plummy, riper profile. This remained fairly constant through another hour.
The un-decanted sample was more similar to my 9/24/2022 TN than 5/3/23 TN. Lots of black fruits on the structured palate with a good dose or herbs and spice. Sweet blue and black fruits combined with oak on the very energetic, satisfying finish with enough tannins to let you know that it is from mountain fruit. Still ageworthy, although seemingly near peak. Superb Zin!!!! 92++1 person found this helpful Comment -

May 3, 2023 - Another fascinating side-by-side. 2015 Bedrock Monte Rosso vs. 2015 Carlisle Monte Rosso. Identical glasses. Slow ox in glass 45-60 minutes.
The Bedrock was a slight favorite - classically built and structured, with briary raspberry and blackberry fruit with notes of roasted herbs and smoke on the nose. Well balanced tannins and finesse on the finish. Reminded me of a classic Ridge Geyserville. 92+
The Carlisle came across as riper, more decadent and rich with plums, black raspberry, baking spices and a bit of oak on the nose. Savory and plummy on the large palate with some black pepper and licorice. Slightly more prominent oak and tannins on the finish, but still well structured. This wine opened up/calmed down considerably after another hour making me wonder if it should have been decanted... 91-92. If tasted blind I would have guessed this was Turley, not Carlisle.
A fascinating comparison of styles!!3 people found this helpful Comment -

May 3, 2023 - Opened for 30 minutes (no decant). Significant acid (but not imbalanced) which paired well with our pasta and red sauce. Not sure it would have paired as well with other foods. Some tart cherry and raspberries. Still good depth and finish.
