May 26, 2019 - Somewhat muted nose, but pleasant. Graphite and cigar box along with dark fruits. Decanted nearly three hours, and tannins really softened during that time. Blueberry and black berry lead on the palate, with good structure and long finish. Many years left for this wine.

December 30, 2016 - We were drinking this within the metaphorical shadow of Hearst Castle and the sprawling ranch that gives its name to this bottle. Deep ruby, nose of green pepper (I thought), medium body, perhaps a lighter weight than a typical classic Cali cab.
