Community Tasting Notes 4

November 19, 2020 - Prior bottle was just over four months ago and my notes were more in keeping with my prior winery tasting (in November 2019), so serving temperature was quite possibly the reason my impression from July 2020 were so different on the fruit profile. Tonight, it should black cherry on the nose with red cherry highlights along with spice and earth qualities. Medium bodied with soft black cherry mixed with red cherry both upfront and through the middle. Mid-body brings in plum notes, good density and very good integration with the backside notes of tart black cherry, light blackberry and integrated tannins. The wine is certainly opening up and while not all blackfruit (the way it was in November 2019) it wasn't as red cherry dominant as my bottle from July 2020. It clearly has a number of years ahead of it as it slowly evolves, but should be able to maintain the high performance level even as the profile changes.

July 17, 2020 - Previously tasted eight months ago at the winery, this was my first from bottle and my notes were remarkably different. So much so that I double and triple checked that I had pulled the correct vintage. Not sure if it was a serving temperature issue (warm day), the wine it was drunk alongside (a distinctly blackfruit Bordeaux, which may have made this wine feel more "redfruit" in comparison) or perhaps was open too long (roughly 3 hours ahead of time), but while my winery tasting notes described a dark, deep, blackfruit based bottle, what I experienced today was virtually all redfruit.

Red cherry, light spices, earth and cassis on the nose. Medium bodied, but all red fruit with red cherry upfront and good depth through the middle. The fruit is rounded and expressive, but not soft. The backside felt more integrated than previously and while the wine showed good acidity and fine grained tannins, this felt more integrated overall, along the lines of the 2016.

I wasn't at all disappointed by this wine, more intrigued. The overall quality merits the same score, but the difference in notes was interesting. I plan to try my next (and last) from bottle in November 2020 and see what this wine has to show me.

November 22, 2019 - Tasted at the winery. Much more aromatic than the 2018 with lots of black cherry, spices and earth. Medium bodied (12.5% ABV) with all blackfruit notes upfront and through the mid-body, especially black cherry and almost plum. Mid-body shows noticeably more depth than the 2018, but at the same time, demonstrates elegance and silkiness. Spices, tart black cherry, hints of tart red cherry and perhaps some blackberry come in on the backside. There's more structure here than the 2018, but as the fruit keeps pace, the wine feels harmonious. Nice length on the finish with earth, spices and minerals. I'll plan to try my first from bottle in June/July 2020.

September 4, 2017 - FLX Trip - notes (FLX): bright cherry tones, rich but cooler red fruit notes, light use of oak. good structure and tannin. should age medium length and develop.
