Community Tasting Notes 5

February 18, 2017 - Opened tonight with no optimism. Turns out that this wine in my cellar is still very young. Waiting for the tannins (yes this is a merlot) to open up. Completely surprised.

December 20, 2009 - after years of waiting the wine finally opened up. Not enought though to unleash all its hidden flavours. Six more months cellaring.

April 30, 2007 - clear, deep purple with pink rim and some legs staining the glass. clean, medium intensity, youthful nose of plum, black cherry, and black pepper, with some vegetal notes. dry, medium acid, medium(+) tannin, medium alcohol, medium bodied wine with medium intensity flavors of black fruit, black pepper, and plum. medium length, with a hint of bitterness (coffee grounds) after about 5 seconds. good quality. ready to drink, but can age 3 years and last 3 beyond due to complex nose and good fruit flavors. tannins are a bit forward right now and can use some time to round out.

December 1, 2006 - Slightly darker red that the 2002. More linear nose with less priminant fruit. Herbal notes more obvious but the don’t dominate. Well structured with some noticeable tannin, outweighing the fruit at this stage. The fruit does persist through the palate but the strength is mild at best. Not sure if it will get any better. Plenty of better $42 / 3yr old merlots around the traps.

November 16, 2006 - Nothing particular wrong with this wine. Maybe I opened it early but it was just sort of mundane.
