February 19, 2023 - Was quite harsh on day 1, even after a good hour in the glass. High toned nebbiolo for sure, but the tannins and acid were too powerful compared to the fruit. Recorked and tried again day 2, much softer, with that lovely cool climate mandarin orange & floral aspect. So I guess the lesson is to give it a solid decant or drink over several days.

June 26, 2022 - Outstanding - the nose is just intoxicating - soaring mint, flowers - a very high-toned expression of Nebbiolo. Honesty I wish I had more time to enjoy the nose but was focused on dinner and it was hard to stop drinking this. Medium body across the palate - a mouth watering, long finish - a very enjoyable bottle and in a great place now.

March 12, 2022 - Good structure. BLack fruit, a touch of leather. Cooked and drank with braised lamb shanks in deeply caremalized onions (like in onion soup) and barley.

October 28, 2020 - And the streak continues unbroken. Not since Vallana's single-cru Spannas of the 1950s have I tasted a real quality Nebbiolo not labeled "Barolo" or "Barbaresco." This one opened with a powerful arôme de merde that never blew off. After half an hour I detected some berry complex on the palate, but that soon dissipated. Overall, disjointed and incoherent, saved only by being served to wash down a very flavorful ribeye. Life is too short for wines like this. At least I still have two remaining 1958 Vallana Spannas.

April 23, 2020 - Drank all of my bottles and wish I had more. Is it as lovely and complex as Ferrando Carema? No, but it is much more affordable. It gave me the same impression of place.
