Community Tasting Notes 91

February 22, 2024 - Purchased for $42. Opened for #tawnytuesday. Beautiful dark mahogany in color. What an expressive nose with candied walnuts, molasses and a slight hint of maple. The palate is downright outstanding. On the sweet side. Dark caramel, maple, dark chocolate and citrus. What a mouthfeel. So soft. The acidity is incredible. Makes your mouth water and want to come back for more. Very nice length on the finish. This is absolutely everything I love about Tawny Port.

    OPINION:
    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

tawny colour with ruby rim and medium body. a bit of alcohol blows off and notes of cedar and tobacco leaf waft thru the ripe fig, plum and cherry nose. layered in the mouth, the ripe fruit is laced with nutty, caramel, baking spice and cocoa. good length with a very subtle but welcome savoury/balsamic edge.

good balance of flavours and acidity, and generally smooth but with a bit of heat if served on the warm side.

    20% AbV; ~100g/L RS

December 7, 2023 - This wine still has some nice fruit remaining. It's totally balanced with enough acidity to balance the sweetness. It's very elegant across the full palate. The flavors are very varietal. The best part is there are no rough edges or bitterness. This is an excellent wine. I just would have like to have tasted how this would be as a 30 year tawny since the 30 year tawny has been my sweet spot.

August 18, 2023 - Abundant fruit with caramel, toffee and nutty elements as well. Delightful.

July 15, 2023 - Drank alongside Porto Morgado Ruby Port and 10 Year Tawny Port.

Showing a lot of typical port oxidation notes, brown sugar and molasses, bittersweet chocolate, rum raisins, fairly large presence of oak here, coconut and toast. Med+ body, sweet, med acid, med+ finish. A little too strong on the oak for me here, but the intensity of flavors seem right. Showing some heat as well.
