April 30, 2023 - PNP. Very deep dark electric magenta color. Blackberry, cinnamon oatmeal cookie, tea, slate, soil, and subtle violet. Smooth, tongue drying palate, with mouth coating slightly chalky acidity. Bakers chocolate very noticeable on the palate, but not so much on the nose. Firm, full tannins on the longish finish.

Had this at a very cute bistro in Paris, which may have elevated the score ever so slightly. Really nice complexity and texture for the price point.

August 11, 2020 - I rated this as high as I did because it's a Pomerol, and as other have noted, finding one under $30 is difficult. I decanted and found an ink black, dark, opaque color, and dark berry fruits on the nose. First impressions: it's way too young to drink: hard, closed, tight as a fist. I thought it needed at least 5 more years in the bottle. Second night I had higher hopes, and found the wine to be fragmented, with a weighty, dense initial feel on the palate, dissolving into a hint a dark berry fruit, and then immediately proceeding to a finish of fine, gritty tannins, leaving the impression of a highly tannic bitterness. Still I had hope. On night 3 (the wine still in the decanter, temperature controlled closet) the tannins were somewhat partially subdued, and at last the wine showed some of the dark, blackberry fruit that was promised on day 1, but then dissolving into a finish where the tannins were finer, and just a bit more subdued. This wine needs years more in the bottle to resolve its conflicts. Five years? More? One can hold out hope. This wine is a project with the hope of achieving a promise of 90-91 points.

May 31, 2020 - Beautiful nose of blackcurrant, lead pencil, and a bit of fresh green herb. medium bodied, with a mix of ripe red/black fruit and gravel at the front, followed by cocoa and a hint of mint. Finishes with semi-rustic, green-leaning tannins. A bit simple, but a bargain for Pomerol.

October 23, 2019 - Bordeaux 2016 (Wine Cellar): 1st wine purchased by Mouiex family. It is the most westerly Pomerol producer, and the vineyard is very sandy soils which contain cut iron-iron deposits. (90% Merlot, 10% CF)
On the nose a distinct Bordeaux pong, high tone almost with saddle leather, savoury elements, roasted meat and feral. This gives way on swirling to some black & red cherry, black plum together with blueberries. The palate has an earth attack but becomes plusher. It seems there is plenty of skin and material to the fruit, with some chocolate and the gritty tannins have more density than expected. the palate warmed me more than the nose with a decent length but I couldn't help but feel there is a hint of volatility and perhaps Brett or both. Whilst the palate is 89/100 the nose troubles me.

August 25, 2019 - Purchased for under $30 which is a tough task for Pomerol. In the past this wine has been a bit rustic and old school. Still the case today, but this 2016 perhaps is the best Tailleffer I have tasted. Good fruit, earth, iron, and minerality. Tannins could use a few years to soften and integrate. Have had some bottle variation. I could swear one bottle showed a touch of brett where others did not.
I would hold this wine for the short to mid term, or decant for a while.
