January 20, 2015 - Dense, opaque mostly redish orange with brown tinge. Decant needed; some suspended sediment. Fragrant raisiny-menthol-tangy aroma and flavour. Good acidic backbone gives it a nice bright balance underlying the strong spicy front end. Doesn't need more than a short 30-minute decant, if at all. My preference for Amarone's is 15-20 years' age, and this fits the bill. Very enjoyable.

July 5, 2014 - Old World Blind Tasting >$25 (Bin 75): Semi-translucent, very dull dark crimson core with orange rim, well aged; balsamic, raisin, medicinal red cherry, autumnal; seemingly sweet initially but nice dryness complimented with a medicinal note, leather, fig, prune, chewing tobacco, some fruit, overall leaner than most Amarone; a well stored bottle that is at or just past peak.

March 4, 2014 - Some wines should come with drinking instructions. EG .17 and 1
We opened this wine the night before did the usual smell, color and taste test. Horrible in every way except" Promise". It promised to be better the next day, so we placed the cork lightly back in bottle so it would continue to breath and waited.
What was once almost undrinkable at 82 points, blossomed with a day to 91 and quite amazing. Yes still brown on the edges and old world italian but a great nose and flavor pleasing to all.
My 17/1 is age to drink and days open. I've had many older French and Italian wines that we 25/2 or more.

November 12, 2010 - Somewhat acidic with a very strong aftertaste, but you have to love the rich body of this wine. I enjoyed it because it was complimented with a heavy pasta dish that needed a rich wine and this worked perfectly.

January 23, 2009 - Fine Wino Friday (Sean's Place): Aromas of sassafras, mustard, and sweat. Notable pruny and balsamic flavors. Have not had much amarone; very interesting.
