February 27, 2022 - Decanted briefly but kept improving over 90 minutes so you may want to give this some air before serving. Lovely balanced and full-bodied Cab with a touch of eucalyptus and fine earth notes.

September 4, 2020 - Drank over two days. This is showing beautifully with fine, chewy tannins, buoyant acid, savory dark fruit, dark chocolate, espresso bean, long finish that fades slowly leaving lingering anise. While the palate is more diffuse than focused, this is a special wine. So enjoyable.

July 31, 2020 - Side by side with 2016-2017. This showed a little less acidity and structure than the other two wines, with a bit more opulence and dark fruit character. Blackberries, lovely floral notes, cedar, fragrant earth and herbal elements on a slightly reticent nose. While this is definitely a reserved and more classic style wine, this vintage still shows with lots of deep black and blue fruit in nice layered waves. The tannins are integrated and this is nicely fresh and mineral driven as it moves to the mid-palate. Medium length finish.

October 24, 2019 - This delicious and nuanced wine needs a few hours of air to hit its stride, but it’s amazing once it opens up and unfolds. To be sure, this a wine that prioritizes purity and freshness over ripeness and creaminess, but I’m not trying to throw lobs in the IPOB debate (e.g., new oak is bad! high Brix = bad wine!). Instead, I’m just saying you should expect a more lean profile than say, a Fait Main, but this is oh so good. After a few hours, this wine is absolutely singing, with an incredible power and uniqueness.

Nose of boysenberry, graphite, peppercorn, mint, and eucalyptus. Tastes of blueberry, boysenberry, gravel, and vanillin, with a seamless finish that integrates fruit, tannin, and acidity. 14.6% alcohol. At the moment, the key is to give the wine time to open up, as two hours added a more round and chocolatey texture that (to me, at least) changed the game. This has the structure and acidity to go for another 5-10 years, but it’s delicious now. 95+ at the moment, with upside in 2021 and later.

October 21, 2019 - Rich, generous and earthy, yet with enough tannic and acid lift to last 2 decades at least. We drank it over 3 days and it got better every day. A great wine created as a side-personal project from the great former winemaker of Dominus and Caymus.
