September 22, 2016 - Dark, ruby-garnet core. Very primary, dense nose of blueberry and plum, with hints of black pepper and espresso bean. The oak was apparent upon opening, but quickly receded with some air. Dry, with balanced acidity and still plenty of unresolved, soft tannins. This is a beast of a wine, still surprisingly primary and unevolved. Yet the wine also has considerable elegance, and I have a feeling this holds excellent potential, given more time.

December 8, 2013 - Needs a nice decant. Don't see this getting any better. It's a decent Syrah, but overpriced for sure. Drink up.

December 7, 2013 - Garnet purple and heavy in the glass. Nose of heat, pepper, red and black fruit and coffee. Full body and dry with primary dark fruit, pepper and scorched earth on the palate. Weak and hot mid-palate. Medium finish. Not enough complexity at this QPR.

March 21, 2013 - This wine is a deep, densely hued garnet color with some purple notes (still!), it is opaque. The smells are dark berries, tar, hoisin, blackberry jam, floral notes, cedar, and black licorice. The tastes are blueberry, vanilla, black olive, stones, oak, blackberry, saline, and dark chocolate. The mostly wood tannins are fierce and there is notable zing. The finish is strangely dry yet mouth watering and goes on. The mouth feel is dense and full and this wine is complex, bold, and powerful.

March 2, 2012 - Stiff tannins which opened after a couple of hours, There is some nice underlying dark, spicy fruit. I'd wait several years before opening this.

12/12/2006 (link)(Clos Mimi "White Hawk") Easily one of the better domestic wines I have had this year. Restrained, yet incredibly concentrated and juicy with beautiful purity and delineation of flavors. There is power but it is all wrapped in finesse. The fruit is dark and the oak beautifully frames all the flavors. The acidity pumps the fruit on the finish which is long and fine. This has tannic clout but is currently hidden byt the wealth of youthfully exuberant fruit. Great wine. Definetly a wine of great power and restraint.
