Community Tasting Notes 15

May 7, 2024 - Purchased on release, sound cork, no ullage, tasted with monthly Winos. Complex, dark fruits (cherries), savory, minerals, quite long. Each bottle from this case has just shown a touch better than the prior ones sampled. My spouse's take: "This is a wine for adults."

May 11, 2022 - First bottle from Pataille and I was impressed. The nose was full of ripe, liqueur like fruits, plum and cassis, black cherry, followed by some damp earthy notes and violets; the palate is rich and plush with ripe fruits and some earth notes. It is suave and yet concentrated at the same time. I don't think I would be able to call this Marsannay blind given the refinement and ripeness, but it is delicious. Shows the concentration and ripeness of the vintage, but nice balance and seems like it should age effortlessly.

November 22, 2021 - Purchased Nov. 2019; perfect fill. Lean but not austere nose, much richer palate that just keeps extending. Forever length. Excellent choice for real-world home dining. Serious, structured, elegance without opulence. Superb Marsannay. Potentially 92 with time. Better and better as it breathes.

Last note, much longer, posted 2 years ago almost to the day. Bought a case based on that tasting. First bottle from that case. If you need perfume tonight, go elsewhere. Palate complexity that just keeps unfolding. Minerals, rocky; super with simple roast chicken. Balance so good this may age 20 years. No clue if the nose will open to equally match the sophisticated mouth feel. Pataille is a top rank winemaker; think what magic he could do with grapes from huChambolle Les Amoureuses or Volnay Caillerets ...
