Community Tasting Notes 5

May 19, 2015 - Quite funky to begin with, but after 45 minutes or so of air, the funk blew off, revealing a very nice 29 year old Brunello. Notes of raisin and prune on the palate, with excellent balance and acidity. Tremendously enjoyable.

May 1, 2012 - Interesting wine that is starting to loose its fruit.. Still drinkable and a solid performance given the price.

April 27, 2012 - Brunello 1990 Horisontal Tasting (@ Canan): Nose: Cabbage and a little dirt and farts. Good depth with iron and forest floor.
Palate: Light plum style fruit with a mature structure. Delicious old wine that is well built. A little weak on the aftertaste.

December 9, 2011 - Good if you like old (and almost tired) wines. Got some pleasure out of it, but must have been better a few years earlier.

June 27, 2007 - The most profound Brunello I’ve ever tasted. Filled well into the neck. When opened and poured, the most fragrant bouquet of pure sangiovese fruit lofted across the table. The wine had browning at the rim and light color, but the palate was perfectly intact. The tannins had receded, revealing a bright, acidic, and an intensely fruit-filled palate. A profound wine from an average vintage, this shows what happens when estates consistently apply traditional production methods year after year: a phenomenal success. Served next to the 1988 Poggio al Vento, 1995 Lisini, and 1993 Banfi Poggio all’Oro, but the 1986 Lisini was in a class by itself.
