August 3, 2018 - A lovely and actually quite brilliant Sancerre, the 2014 Ultimus delivers a clean, fresh fruit with stony minerals, rich gooseberry and white flowers. There is no signs of over-extraction and/or 'cat pee' sometimes found in the Sauvignon Blanc varietal. The palate adds nicely to the first impresion with a lovely, but still integrated and well-behaved acidity. All components are in place and they speak up with one harmonious voice tonight. Texture and structure tell me this effort is most likely in it for the medium haul and it will remain nice for a number of years - but why wait? - It certainly provides prime drinking tonight too.
