NOSE: oak; hint of roast beef; rye bread; a bit high-toned; no distinct, singularly-identifiable fruits.

BODY: medium bodied; clear; violet color of great depth.

TASTE: sweet oak; good acidity; very fine tannins; labelled at 13.5% alc., and it's well-hidden; approachable now, but seems it would be best with 10+ additional years on it; not super-structured (not a concentrated, tannic beast); more red-fruited than purple-fruited. Day 2: oak has calmed-down a bit; elegant; by analogy, this wine is more long distance runner than sprinter … more decathlete than power lifter. Gut impression score: 91 – 92.

November 19, 2019 - Corked. But I could tell the fruit underneath was of great quality. I look forward to trying a fresh bottle.

September 26, 2019 - Decanted for an hour. Blackberry, black currant, Chinese five spice, cassis and pau d’arco tea. Forceful, with tension and a medium to full body, yet linear, with polished tannins and a primary presence. Better than the ‘14, ‘15, ‘05 and even the gorgeous ‘86. The finish sails on and this has a little tobacco throughout. This will age gracefully for many years. Drink 2024 -.

September 21, 2019 - Juicy, earthy and with a touch of fine dust to the tannins, the wine has lift, the fruit is ripe, sweet and soft. Medium bodied, refined and energetic, give this 7-8 years in the cellar and enjoy it over the next 2 decades of life.

August 17, 2019 - Blackberry, blueberry, notes of graphite; smooth, relatively full, good length, young but still pleasing
