March 5, 2024 - This tiny estate (8.6 acres of century-old vines) was founded by Véronique and Jean-François Julien in 1999, with early vintages essentially being "garage wines." Their meticulous attention to detail ultimately led to the Château being elevated to Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé status in 2012. The 2016 vintage of La Fleur Morange is a deep-to-opaque crimson blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, aromatically offering plentiful black currant and morello cherry fruit that is accented with licorice, bark, savory herbs, mulling spices and loamy earth. Full-bodied and with lively acids, it delivers flavors mirroring the nose and stays solid on the mid-palate. At this stage, the wine's 15% alcohol is surprisingly well-integrated, which is also the case for its oak and plentiful sweet tannins. Lingering beautifully on the finish, this is a terrific Saint-Émilion that is just entering its drinking window. This particular bottle was decanted off of its modest sediment, then decanted a second time through a Vinturi aerator. After these two steps, it still seemed to benefit from the first couple of hours in carafe. Drink now-2041.

September 30, 2023 - Dark garnet in color. Full, fragrant & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blackberries & cassis with overtones of earthy/dusty/gravel & floral notes, spices, tobacco, cocoa, herbs & a hint of cedar in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, plush, ripe fruit flavors of sweet cherries, mulberries & dark cassis with spices, herbs, minerals, cocoa & a hint of oak/vanilla. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present but has the structure to develop further with additional aging.

February 19, 2023 - Still tightly wound. The depth of color surprised me. Smells of fleshy plums, currants, licorice, molasses cookies, stone, and wood. Very earthy. Medium to full bodied and a very mouth coating finish. Nice lingering aftertaste. Definitely has a decent amount of Cab Franc. Very nice wine. I do believe this wine has so much life left. I hope I can hold some bottles for another 5 and 10 years.

September 21, 2019 - The natural concentration that comes from 100 year old vines shines through. Round, supple and still showing some oak, especially on the palate, the wine is fresh, earthy, ripe and fleshy. It is going to need time and its tightly wound at the moment, so give it at least 5-7 years before popping a cork.

April 29, 2017 - Soft, fresh, ripe dark red fruits, that show a great blend juicy plums, cherries, licorice, smoke and stone. All this is made even better with true old vine 100 year old Merlot. Those deep roots really helped in this very dry vintage.
