March 1, 2019 - Tooch Going Away Dinner (TDS): Wow, super expressive, intense and layered aromatics of bright red berries with leafy tobacco and bell pepper. The palate is very smooth with lively acids and almost plush, juicy red fruit. Seamless and integrated. A wow wine.

March 1, 2019 - A farewell to Tooch (Chicago, IL): I think overall others at the table liked this more than I did. The nose on this was stunning. Yes, there were the classic notes of green peppers, but there's also a really lovely ripe red fruit aroma that goes along with it. The nose is intense and perfumed, and it's quite powerful too. The palate is weaker than that explosive nose; while it has many of the same elements (the pyrazine, the red fruit, etc.) the concentration doesn't really feel like it's there. Think of this like a watercolour painting, where all the elements are there and the colours are varied, but overall there's a subdued impression.

February 7, 2019 - This is just stunning and drinking perfectly right now. The nose is pretty red cherry, cranberry and white flowers. The palate is fully mature and very elegant with excellent balance and the tannins fully resolved. The palate is red cherries, cranberries, spice and a touch of bell pepper and earth. The wine finishes with a pretty and complex finish. Drink now although I think it will continue to evolve and develop further complexity for another five to ten years and possibly beyond.

September 8, 2018 - nose - orange peel, wet hay
mouth - dark berry, rich flavors, silky but stemmy tannins appreciated. slight funk, and overall quite young. complex wine. i think this can last another 20 years.

November 10, 2017 - Beautiful and complex perfume that justifies the common claim that this is the most Burgundian of Loire cab francs. Delicious wine, lovely in every way. Not sure that I would buy it at today's prices, but a lovely, lovely wine.

(Clos Rougeard Saumur-Champigny Les Poyeux) A wall of fruit immediately escapes once this bottle is opened; it has a very firm character, a melange of red and black fruits, with highlights of coffee, violets and white pepper. The palate has a very cool style, being dry and a little austere in structure perhaps, although it has a bright profile of macerated raspberry and blackberry fruit. It broadens out on the palate and clearly has a very harmonious style, which is solid but well integrated. I think this has the potential to be a very beautifully composed and elegant wine with an appropriate amount of time in the cellar.
