Community Tasting Notes 5

December 8, 2018 - Decanted at 5pm and tasted through 8:30pm. Medium to dark nearly opaque garnet color with a crimson rim. The nose catches a whiff of alcohol then layers of chocolate, licorice baking spice, plum and red currant. The palate is somewhat rich but also higher in acidity than most Cali Cabs and has fully integrated, soft tannins. The palate is fairly layered reflecting the nose. The finish gives a nice black tea and currant flavor that lasts for a good 30-40 seconds. This was my last bottle of a full case and I think it could have gotten better still over another 5 years or so.

September 22, 2018 - Double decanted at midday Saturday then brought to a 50th birthday party that evening. Dark Garnet color. Nice lush nose and mouthfeel. clearly some new oak is still obvious but overall a very harmonious wine with texture and rich flavors of black fruit, berries and some earthy mushroom. It went great with a Beef tenderloin and sautéed mushrooms.

November 13, 2017 - PnP but very consistent with my last note. Translucent medium to dark garnet. Fragrant nose with lots of red and black fruit as well as some vanilla and lavender. Nice texture with moderate tannin and medium + acidity. This is fruit forward but not overdone at all, it shows restraint and elegance. Flavors are well layered and complex with plum, cassis, boysenberry, etc. Nice moderately long finish.

June 4, 2016 - Decanted at about 6 pm. Plastic cork?!? Dark almost opaque garnet with no sign of age. Nose has new oak vanilla, violets, black plum and blackberry. Medium tannin, fairly chewy mouthfeel. Nice variety of black fruit...plum, blackberry, black raspberry, boysenberry and black currant mingle in your mouth. Moderately long finish. A delicious young wine.

December 4, 2014 - This is perhaps one of the best Sonoma Cab's I have ever had. Rich textures note the presence of mountain fruit with a nice dark berry presence.
