December 22, 2023 - Gorgeously ripe and sweet red and blue fruit. Sappy and loads of energy. More candied than I remember but probably even more delicious.

December 2, 2022 - During Rousseau Ruchottes evening in flight with 05 (still too young) and 01 (also ready) this 02 was the best of the flight and probably wine of the evening to me. Very balanced and starting to be resolved with good concentration but also vibrancy and elegance it edged the 01 to me just. Second time with this wine and consistent experience. Drink now - 2040. 95+

August 11, 2021 - Served single blind this was the star of the red Burg line-up that evening clearly. Still fairly youthful but to me in a good zone with lovely clarity and fruit purity. Minerality apparent like sucking on a cherry stone and that lovely cranberry fruit that lingered. I actually think I prefer this right now to the CSJ 02 (which is much more brooding and dark fruited vs this more high pitched and fine Ruchottes) while probably in 10 years the table will have turned.

August 9, 2020 - A classic and clean nose that is indicative of Rousseau with cool and pure red berry fruit and mild rusticity. Darker and quieter than the ‘99 Roumier Ruchottes alongside. This had a technically strong palate with great power and depth of dark cherry and red berry. Opened too young. Classic, high breed, very proper, lots of upside here although still brilliant tonight. 94, 95 in a few more years.

February 20, 2020 - Chez W, decanted an hour, translucent dark garnet, leggy; more to it and purer but as yet perhaps less complex than excellent Mugneret-Gibourg on same night, usual unforced laid back Rousseau style which I admire so much, will make interesting comparison with Roumier as well in 10 years when wines perhaps fully mature. Certainly VF (18.5).

Burgundy-Report

(Rousseau Armand Clos des Ruchottes) Medium, medium-plus cherry-red. The nose is a little tight, high tones over a tight red and black centre. Wide and fresh palate, very elegant, fine tannins leave a soft coating on your teeth and gums. Understated but very well read, this can talk to you on any level you wish. Lovely.

Rockss and Fruit

(Armand Rousseau Ruchottes-Chambertin "Clos des Ruchottes") Gangbusters of a nose. This and Potel's Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Aux Exchanges" must have met before and had a coming out party or something. This wine was so expressive. Minerals, flowers, spice, red cherries, blackberries, game. So sappy but beautifully constructed and put together. Lots of fruit. Almost an overflow. Great wine. Long epic finish.
