May 26, 2017 - Flatiron - Tommasi and Sundries (Flatiron, SF): Pale garnet in the glass. Aromatic nose - dill, slight balsamic, distinct tones of savory cherry-tamari-tobacco. Some acetaldehyde (bruised apple) as is appropriate given the age. Still very much intact on the nose - slight hints of well-integrated brettanomyces (spiced dog fur, mushroomy earthy notes). Toasted coconut and toffee oak, but very well-integrated.
On the palate, it comes off as quite light, almost like washed-out-watercolors, but with everything perceptible. A slight prickle of vinegar frames the flavors. Dry, medium body, medium plus acid, low tannins - extremely softened by age. Finish is only medium plus, but complex.

Very nice example of old Rioja.
