May 16, 2020 - NB: am writing up this 2015 wine from a dinner in 2018, the wine at that time being 3 yrs old.

Looking at the back label, this appears to be a UK supermarket Marks and Spencer label wine made under exclusive contract to M&S by Rod McDonald in New Zealand.

    Decanted half hour

Label says fruit is from the ''old riverbed'' vineyards, Hawke's Bay.

    C....youthful light to med body

N....big! lots of fruit, red/black, some wood, baccy, some tar, some intensity

T....very much made in a Dry style; med body; long sustained flavours; warm alc; gentle agreeable tannins; not mature (at 3 yrs old) but is settled and drinking very well.

VFM?....feels £16 a fair price. Will buy again in gd years.

April 28, 2020 - Purchased from M&S a few years back after a good competition result. I was prompted to try one by the back label note saying drink within 2:years but I think that's poor guidance, at least as far as my palate is concerned. Encouragingly, this appears to have a flavour spectrum and structure that is quite Northern Rhone, my favourite source of Syrah. There's certainly a strong hint of white pepper amidst the black fruits. I'd like to see how this ages with a few more years in bottle, see if it develops the tertiary flavours of its European cousins. If so, that could certainly up this score.

June 24, 2017 - Dark red, purple hue, looks young. Intense spices, thyme, cinnamon hints, some violet. Medium bodied, rich flavours. Fruity, spicy and nodding to Northern Rhone on its nice elegance and complexity side.

Alc 13.0%, 20 months in 40% new French barrel.

IWC champion red wine, a big surprise, big encouragement for NZ Syrah. RC 18.5, BC 95

    Ap 5/5, Ar 13/15, Palate 17/20, Overall 5+3/10
    Total 93+/100
