December 28, 2018 - Deep dark fruit aromas. Tannins present and will integrate over time, great structure built to last. Some slight kirsch on the long finish. Would love to try this in 2024 when it will likely hit its' stride...anticipate silky smooth and memorable finish.

October 11, 2018 - This rich and powerful Cabernet is drinking impressively right now, with incredible fruit and a layered, dusty mouthfeel. Dark red in color and full in body, the nose offers warm aromas of boysenberry, charcoal, gravel, and cedar. Tastes of blueberry pie, black licorice, graphite, and mocha, with a chalky finish that is still integrating its tannins. Blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. 15% alcohol.

I've had mixed experiences with the Macauley wines (and Kirk Venge's wines in general): they obviously offer tremendous fruit, but at times the extraction and oak can create a wine bursting at the seams. Similar to B Cellars, this wine seems to hold it all (mostly) together: this is a strapping and woodsy interpretation of TK, but it retains a touch of freshness to go with all the ripeness. My guess is that this will be better in a year or so. The $175 price tag is nothing to be excited about, though, so I held it back a point.

February 2, 2018 - Birthday Dinner at The Ranch Steakhouse (Anaheim, CA): This was a last minute pull that was taken to dinner PnP with a 2010 Harlan and 2012 Shafer HSS that each had 7 hours of decanting. Rough setup, but wow, this really surprised me and everyone at the dinner table. Initially a bit tight, but it opened up into something great that was able to stay with the others. It leads with tremendously pure and gorgeous fruit, but it's no fruit bomb. The frame and structure are all solidly in tact, which was a bit of a surprise to me. Many great layers of flavor here, with a very long and persistent finish. Excellent stuff. 96+

January 14, 2018 - WOW, what an amazingly rich, thick, smooth, balanced, super delicious fruit, young Napa Cab. Pnp, drank over 1 1/2 hours. Best glass was last. Everyone loved it.
