March 26, 2022 - These Bevan wines have such a consistent and delicious profile…and this one was very Tench. When comparing to Bevan’s Tench and his EE, this is more along the lines of the regular Tench but amped up. There’s more grit/clay going on here at the finish.

Probably the most “floral” Tench I’ve had…dark violets and lavender, with espresso, and a mix of red, blue and black fruits. The palate is absolutely spellbinding with its rich, yet nimble profile. So much going on here. Enters with a wild blueberry, brambly blackberry note before turning quickly to dusted dark chocolate black cherries with sweet herbs and clay and even smoked meat. There’s a bit of graphite and high percentage dark cocoa tannic grip at the finish.

At 7yrs old, this is a Bevan wine that is just coming in to its own. With how powerful this is, I’d be in no rush to consume, although with how good it is now, you might as well!

September 19, 2020 - I’ve heard all the great stories about this one block in Tench, different from the others, with no explanation, you know the one that produces the Calixtro. Trying to decide not if I buy the ‘18, but how much.

    Decanted and aired out.

At 2 hrs, oak has receded, a few fine tannins but complimentary. Purplish candied fruit, sweet red cherries, dried cranberries, touch of peach, faint blood orange. A bit sharp on the mid palate, mid length finish. Blind, I would guess anywhere other than Eastern Oakville. None of the usual red/black fruit, iron, smoke notes. Needs more air.

At 3hrs, this was hitting on all cylinders. “Tench” plus an emphasis on red cherries, cranberries, raspberry shows up. Touch of black cherry/black raspberry as well, but in the background. Everything is in harmony and marching together on the palate. The orangish/red fruit notes have receded. Long 45 second finish, leaving me wanting more.

The verdict? 97 for now—I think this has room to get to 98-99.

I will buy more ‘18 than I should. This is really really good, seemingly a blend of Tench + western Oakville floor fruit, yet all from one block.

June 5, 2020 - Just a massive wine with the intensity holding over a two day period. Like most Bevan 15’s these are singing now. Not sure these will ever shut down so might as well drink them.

May 21, 2020 - Pnp first glass then into a narrow decanter and drank over 4 hours. The wine was great from start to finish. Very rich velvety profile. Delicious blueberry and blackberry compote. Sweet tannin but the fruit/tannin carry through the midpalate. Long finish. This wine wa great because ithad great fruit and a rich mouthfeel but wasnt heavy or a fruitbomb as it had ample tannin/ acidity. I would open a bottle now

March 18, 2019 - Black/purple, with a nose like a fruit tart: blackberries and cream, French vanilla ice cream, cake spice, red licorice and thyme. An exceptionally powerful wine even for Bevan, who loves intensity in cabernet. The palate is rich, with a chewy texture, and it coats the mouth, lingering for many seconds. The fruit has a nice tension between sweet ripeness and tartness, although is more sweet than tart. My score here, 89, is kind of a personal thing: for me, this wine is overdone and overoaked. I could even have dropped to 88. But many people love this style of Napa cabernet and will completely disagree with me. If you are a big fan of monster cabs, drink this one on the young side and it will blow your mind!
