Community Tasting Notes 18

August 13, 2023 - Tasted a lineup of 2016-2020 Hemelrand Vine Garden. After the Cartology, this was rounder, more fruity and also felt a bit warmer/richer (perhaps due to the Roussanne and other warmer grape varieties). 2019 was the most impressive of the lot for me; 2016 was flawed. A replacement bottle showed better, but not the best vintage in my opinion.

April 30, 2023 - Stunning wine that gained substantially during the period we drank it. So it still has a nice future. Excellent PQR

October 10, 2022 - See previous note from March of 2021. Complex with Lime zest and honeycomb with a backbone of minerality.

December 26, 2021 - Decanted quite a long time in advance, after my experience with the last bottle. Again it was towards the end of the meal it was showing its greater depths and interest. Still not showing the excitement I felt when it was a young wine. Perhaps I have to keep it a bit longer.

August 16, 2021 - Taken to some friends, and opened a couple of hours ahead, but not decanted. Showed rather dumb with the fish course. It gave more as it warmed up, but well short of my earlier enthusiasm for the wine.

Went very well with the smelly cheeses, was showing more of its features by then. Next day's remains, with fish, was also singing better. Classy but wasn't doing enough to justify how I have scored it previously. Maybe still not sufficiently out of a middle-age dumb phase. Will wait a bit for the other bottles.

We felt the wine had years left in it yet, but I will try to ensure I open early enough and decant to get it going next time.
