May 25, 2021 - Tasted blind at a dinner with 2 Margaux's, 2 Haut Brions, 1986 Mouton, 1995 Angelus. No one identified as Napa Cab. Big, balanced, rich complex nose with black currants, dark berries, cedar and olive notes, well integrated tannins, long finish, years to go. Voted #1 wine of the evening.

October 14, 2020 - Tasted at a Harlan vertical (1990 – 1999) This and the 1994 stood out as the best vintages of the tasting. Still at peek and a big surprise that it fared so well. 99-100 point

January 5, 2020 - Loek's birthday lunch and tasting (Restaurant Bak, Amsterdam): Its first release, so a very special bottle; the colour is lively , but ripe (of course), soft vanilla, a whiff of mint, black currants, smooth and juicy, no edges, but still a lot of complexity, but no 'electricity'. With aeration the wine grows in the glass. The power is very gentle and subtle and the finish is excellent. After 29 years I think the wine has reached its ceiling, or maybe did some years ago.

December 30, 2017 - Opened for our 40th anniversary, so there was no way this wine wasn't going to be great... Nevertheless, while not as pronounced as some other Harlans we've opened, the 1990 First Release was still beautiful in color and nose, an elegant, well balanced wine with a long finish. This wine was still going strong after 27 years. Black cherries, currants, blackberries, plums, leather, licorice, and some earthiness. Life is good!

December 15, 2015 - Lovely nose but body lacks a bit of volume - not quite archetypical Harlan yet
