September 8, 2012 - Surprise, surprise. What a magnificent wine experience. Yet another example of how well a wine can show from magnum. Dark red color, no murkiness, no bricking. Elegant nose of red fruits, currants, subtle blackberry, and some soft spice. Relatively youthful but restrained flavors of black cherry, dark stone fruits, some pleasant minerality, a touch of tar. Breathtaking mouthfeel -- texture and balance here are spot on. Very Burgundian, would have thought so if had been blinded, maybe an '02. A lot of energy and personality packed into this juice. Another mag opened a few years back had been a bit too fruit forward for my taste, hence my hesitation about this one. With a few additional years in the cellar, this wine has transformed. We were both in agreement about how spectacular this wine showed, and that's coming from my wife, who had been a bit cranky that I wasn't opening up some burg.

September 2, 2010 - PnP. Translucent violet red. Nose starts off with really nice pinot funk (that I like), then light red berries, spices and mushrooms. Fairly intense fruit on palate, given the color, with good acidity, some heat. Not as complex on the palate as the nose, lacking tension/penetration, but with good flavor and balance.

January 7, 2009 - Good smokey nose. Good medium red fruit and earth/mushroom on the palatte. A bit of heat on the finish though. The heat actually seemed a bit more integrated after the first 90 minutes or so. Not as strong an offering as other years, and a little riper than what i'm looking for from Oregon and this producer, but still interesting to drink.

August 22, 2008 - Very good, but a bit more ripe than some marjories makes it taste more like a louise. Not quite the apparent complexity of some other years.

May 17, 2008 - Lighter and more fruit-focused then I remember this being at the winery; raspberry fruit and earth on the nose; fresh tasting, with gobs of fresh raspberry or strawberry fruit, just not much else; Martinelli and Roar blow this away; decanted for one hour, but this could have used a bit more bottle time--disjointed.
