Community Tasting Notes 19

July 20, 2023 - I keep looking for that elusive Côte-Rôtie that surprises. Unfortunately, this one wasn't it. I found the nose to be almost indistinguisable (no, I'm not Covid+), and the taste was flat and uneventful. Maybe an off bottle. Maybe not. Maybe it will come to life with some air.

April 21, 2023 - Xavier Gerard and Will Arnold (Noizé, London): Bright, dense mid ruby. Elegant with a hint of violets. A freshness. Some red in the fruit Currently there’s more energy here. Vibrant. ****

December 18, 2022 - green grass and herb with blackberries and dried meat on the nose. palate light and elegant with good acidity. more dark berry plus iron flavors, ripe but lightened a bit by the relatively acidic and light nature of the wine. faint fine tannin at the back. good but lacks a bit in the mid palate.

December 21, 2021 - After an hour decant, the wine clearly showed how challenging 2014 was for the region. Most of the fruit aromas are gone and the nose is mainly savory (olives and pancetta) with some tilled earth. The palate displays medium acid and medium tannin that is well integrated. Medium body with a strong peppery finish. The wine is lacking fruit and only has some hints of dark cherry in the background, but at this stage, I think the wine is past peak. Paired with grilled lamb chops.

September 9, 2021 - This is exactly what an entry-level Cote Rotie should be. The concentrated fruit is balanced by herbal notes and real structure. Moderate in weight and intensity, this is classically proportioned and satisfying with food.
