Community Tasting Notes 2

April 26, 2015 - Excellent $10 drinking. A bit generic, and maybe even a little sweet, but fun drinking and very good furry tannin running right through the back palate. I'll be back.

    January 20, 2014 - paid $11.99

after throughly enjoying Kaiken's 2011 Malbec reserva i decided to give this a try.

nose:plum, some ripe red raspberries and cherries. dried herbs. even a little leather and a faint hint of black coffee. menthol.

Palate: not as opulent as the nose would suggest. a bit thin. lively acidity and fairly-gentle tannins. red fruit that comes turns bit tart but nothing super distinct. menthol comes through but not much complexity or nuance.

after spending a couple hours with this wine it's hard to be dissapointed considering the price point, but it didn't live up to the standards set by the malbec.

nothing about this wine screams cabernet. i feel it's a bit reserved but at the same time it's not poorly made. it's fruit forward but lacking some ripeness. given the tannic structure i don't see it improving much with age.

that being said, i'd still take it over many California $12 cabs.
don't count out Kaiken, this simply wasn't their finest effort.
