Community Tasting Notes 3

    November 28, 2022 - Appearance: Deep Purple
Nose: Med intensity; aromas black fruits (blueberry, blackberry), herbal (mint, anise), spice (black pepper), oak (cedar, smoke, chocolate, coffee) leather, earth, and cooked plum
Palate: Dry, med acidity, med+ bitter tannins, high alcohol, med bodied, med intensity, bitter texture, and med finish. Flavors of black fruits (blackberry, boysenberry), herbal (anise), spice (pepper), oak (bitter coffee, smoke), tea, leather, meat, and cooked plum.
Quality: Good; Despite the complex flavors (ranging from primary to secondary to tertiary), the harsh, bitter tannins and lack of intensity on the nose and palate keep the wine out of balance. Considering the absence of a long finish, this wine lacks the credentials of a Very Good or Outstanding wine.
Agibility: Not suitable for bottle aging; The wine is already displaying tertiary flavors (tea, leather, earth, cooked plum), and while capable of holding for 2-3 years, the structure, concentration, and intensity do not indicate this wine will improve beyond that. More than likely, the bitter tannins will never resolve, and the acidity will only become more abrasive.

October 18, 2019 - Second bottle was much better than the first - much more fruit, balance and depth. Still, I find the mid-palate and finish to be a bit rough.

July 23, 2019 - Love the hickory, baking spices, licorice, candied bacon aromas on this wine. BUT... the palate comes across as woody with extremely tart boysenberry, mint and black pepper. Unfortunate given what the nose teases. Not entirely sure if the bottle is flawed or if it is just a poor, expensive wine. Will hit up David and get his opinion.
