March 29, 2024 - Plum, cassis, tobacco, pencil lead, a hint of vanilla on the nose. Medium body, composed and balanced on the palate, with maybe a bit less acidity and length than I find in the best 2016s, but awfully hard to beat at this price. Seems mildly evolved, with some tertiary flavors developing, but definitely has 5+ more years in the tank.

November 10, 2023 - Straight out of the bottle, the wine seemed edgy and constrained. Gave it a1.5 hour decant, and those rough edges smoothed-out and was quite enjoyable with our meal. A little rhubarb pie, chalk dust, pencil and herbs up front combined with brightness. The wine did seem to flatten-out mid palette leading to a short and slightly dry finish. Great food wine, and this vintage was better than the last one we had (2012). Enjoyed with sirloin steak, baked potato and broccolini. Definitely a value wine, and seek to add more to the cellar to have on hand.

November 25, 2022 - A very pleasant petit Bordeaux purchased at Total Wine for $18. The Compostelle is the premium cuvée for the estate. Very typical, inexpensive, Merlot-driven Castillon softened nicely by wood. Drinking well now but will continue to develop. 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Production of the Compostelle is just 3,500 cases per year.
