May 7, 2016 - Double decanted and slow ox'd for 6 hours. Initially a bit less expressive on the nose. After 2 hours the nose becomes very similar and almost identical to the 97 Santo Stefano: rose petals. macerated red cherries, spice, and a hint of leather. On the palate, bigger and more masculine than the Santo Stefano with plenty of red fruits. Tannins are noticeable but in check. Great now and without a doubt even better in another 10 years.

October 16, 2013 - Barolo Cru Dinner (La Pentola): Nose shows very Burgundian and based on the nose, people thought this was a ringer. But on the palate shows all nebbiolo with sweeter red fruits, tar and loads of acid and tannins. Overall a very pretty wine but firm tannic structure. Can be enjoyed now but more to come in 5-7 years. Excellent. 92+

May 18, 2012 - Birthday Giacosas (Antico, Chicago IL): nose: this easily showed the most maturity on the nose from any of the previous wines. That is to be expected and it gave way to beautiful and savory tones of strawberries, perfumes, incense, tar, florals, and bits of red fruits. Well layered and very pretty.
taste: silky and regal medium body with medium+ acidity and good supporting tannins. Well balanced with a real deft touch on the palate and elegant tones of berries, incense, florals, red fruits, roasted herbs and a good amount of cherries.
overall: This was a gorgeous giacosa. Obviously this is the most mature wine at the tasting and it showed it. This had a regal quality to it and was extremely pretty. This was the kind of wine that I would've loved to have spent an entire night with.1 person found this helpful Comment
