January 11, 2023 - Apparently this wine was the first Portuguese wine to make Spectator 100. Certainly happy to try it although I think the 2004 bottle I tried is showing its age. It was a 375mk bottle and I would not be afraid to try a larger format that has been stored well. Def drink now. One reviewer wrote that these bottles don’t improve with age just change - I didn’t know what that meant until now.

Nose throws off super ripe blackberry, blueberry, and major vanilla oak carried by the alcohol.
Palate retains acid but fruit it aged judging by the stewed / cooked flavors of predominately blackberry / black currant. Tannins still strong, finish medium +.

December 11, 2022 - Enjoyed with fettuccine. Blue scented, pours a deep red with no real signs of oranging yet. ribbon candy and pink taffy nose, with some Tahitian vanilla and Zanzibaribbean Fuu fruit. Neutral-ish on the palate, yet full bodied with date pastes, leathery drying tannin, turbinado, black cherry and cigar box.

November 18, 2021 - From a 375. Last night, after 30 mins of air it was still dark and brooding, almost youthful. Had some nice backbone but the next day way more expressive. Lots of bramble, mocha, stewed plumbs and blackberry compote. Loooong finish, maybe 40+ seconds. Have a few more in the cellar and will enjoy them!

October 23, 2021 - Wasn't expecting much, as the last bottle I tried was OTT. Still very deeply purple/black coloured, there's a nice nose of tar, black fruits and a slight herbal and floral note. Still a big, ripe, rich wine on a full bodied palate, with similar flavours, and a mouth coating texture, ripe tannins and a lengthy finish. This showed much better than the previous bottle, and should last quite a while (B+/A-).

February 5, 2021 - Opened and poured from the cellar, and let warm up a bit. I. Great shape, a full bodied, brawny wine, throwing sediment. Rustic style. Rich, ripe palate of black cherry, plum, dusty blackberry. Fruity and great structure. Very nice indeed.
